Description

Misophonia, literally "hatred of sound", is a neurological disorder in which negative experiences (anger, flight, hatred, disgust, anxiety) are triggered by specific sounds. The sounds can be loud or soft. The term [...] often used interchangeably with the term selective sound sensitivity. - Wikipedia

Misophonia is often connected with Misokinesia,
meaning hatred of movement.
The worst, it finds a way through every coping mechanism you develop.

There isn't a cure or therapy for misophonia yet, many therapists haven't even heard about it or aknowledged it as an actual mental disorder.
For staying in trains or crowded places I have one tip though, I wouldn't recommend using earplugs - your brain will concentrate a lot more on hearing and will filter trigger noises out easier and after taking them out your  hearing will be better. I recommend getting a white noise generator-app on your smartphone for such situations, it's free and good enough to cover up the worst triggers, plus it is really calming and without a pause (unlike some music or when listening to a playlist).

Wow I never realized this was a real thing. Been experiencing this all my life and just thought I was weird!

What's been worse for me lately with this is not being able to enjoy some music anymore, due to sounds sensitivity. That part sucks!

I found out this especially when I was staying with friends and their kid asked me why I had earplugs in my ears (they were talking to me and the radio was on loud) and I said I needed them to help filter out sounds so I could hear them better. They thought that was weird. That was when I realized that I really had something wrong with me, but just didn't know what it was. :(

Thanks for this, it's good to know this isn't just "all in my head" (sorry, bad pun intended)...
